Samarpanam - celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita held an event at the 20th international book festival in Ernakulam on December 5, 2016. This program was inaugurated by the Bengali journalist and writer Rantidev Sengupta and presided over by Dr. M. Lakshmikumari. Other notable speakers at the event were Sampoojya Swami Bhadresanandaji Maharaj (President, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Vyttila), Sampoojya Sumedha Prana Mataji, Sampoojya Swami Nandatmanandaji Maharaj, Ms. Meena Vishwanathan, Dr. Vinaya Ramamurthy, Dr. Lakshmi Shankar and Dr. Jyotsna G. Nair.  Mr. Rantidev Sengupta spoke eloquently about the role of Sister Nivedita in India's proud history and how historians have categorically failed to acknowledge her illustrious life.  She has not been accorded the place she rightfully earned and deserves in the Indian freedom movement.  At one point, after she arrived in India, she firmly believed that it is time for India to attain independence and worked tirelessly for the same.  She not only realized that freedom is inevitable for India to progress and develop, she was also able to inspire a generation of young people to work towards this noble goal.  She was born and raised in Ireland, but through her work and career she became an unapologetic, patriotic and complete Indian.
