Swami Vivekananda’s Kerala Visit - Commemoration

A grand public meeting was held at the Mayilvahanam Community Hall at Shoranur on January 29, 2012 to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s first visit to Kerala during his ‘parivrajaka’ days in Nov-Dec 1892. It was at Shoranur, that Swamiji set foot in Kerala to begin his tour of the region and as such the place occupies a special place not only in the life of Swamiji but also in the subsequent history of the State. The main speaker was Swami Sandeepananda Giri (School of Bhagavad Gita). In his speech Swami emphasized the underlying truth and eternal principles of the Upanishadic wisdom in Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. Sri Palat Mohandas-IAS(Retd) (Chairman of the Committee), presided. Sri M. R. Murali (Chairman, Shoranur Municipality) inaugurated the meeting. Prof. S. Radhakrishnan gave a detailed account of Swamiji’s visit to Kerala. Advocate S. Prabha Shankar and Dr. V.Jyothish also spoke at the meeting. As an outcome of this event a study centre for Swamiji’s teachings was founded.
